1 day awareness and education- course contents Call 01387 245400 or use our on-line enquiry form Diversity and Inclusiveness Our world is a much smaller place. We used to have to travel far and wide to encounter people of different backgrounds, beliefs and behaviours.
Today we just have to look around us, and we see a diverse society, where our Equality Policies have encouraged us to see everyone as Equal. Diversity encourages us to see everyone as different, to respect those differences, and find ways to satisfy people’s needs and requirements. And that's what organisations try to do all the time; create satisfied customers. Unfortunately our greatest strength, our workforce, can also be our greatest barrier to meeting different people’s needs. The best policy in the world needs implementing and monitoring or it will fail. We work with people to ensure Diversity is understood and acted on, creating opportunity and growth. The Business Case Why on Earth should any organisation want to implement a Diversity Action Plan? Surely its just another way of saying “Equality” and we have a good Equality policy… Well, everyone is not equal, and unless we understand and accept difference, we will always be at the mercy of our own beliefs—often unfounded—about other people. This leads to missed opportunities to grow business, and can lead us to be liable under the Law. The number of factors involved in Diversity is now larger than ever. Not just ethnicity, gender, age but also belief, sexual orientation and more.
Does our workforce reflect the Diverse mix of Society? The Society which is our customer base? Can we rely on our people to implement an effective Diversity Plan on their own? The answer is almost certainly “No”. And although that’s not surprising, organisations who have fully embraced the Diversity business case report better sales, more satisfied customers, better recruitment and retention and other business benefits. The Social case The Social Case is well established too, and for most organisations this is all about what having an effective Diversity Action Plan says about them and their attitude to their employees and customers. All in all Diversity is changing our Society and therefore will change the way all of us do business. And like any change, the easiest to deal with is the change we make ourselves, rather than having it imposed on us. 1 day awareness and educationThis module will benefit anyone who as a function of their job, works in a Team, works with other people, deals with the Public or represents their organisation. By the end of this module delegates will be able to: Explain what Diversity is and what it means Understand the benefits for their organisation of an effective Diversity Plan Understand the benefits for themselves of an effective, well monitored Diversity Plan Understand why we are all pre-disposed to judge others Realise there is a potential Liability if we do not meet our Diversity obligations.
